മുറ്റത്തെ മുല്ലയ്ക്ക് മണമില്ല

muṟṟatte mullaykkŭ maṇamilla

The jasmine in your own courtyard has no fragrance

Meaning: We fail to value what is close at hand — familiarity breeds contempt.

അണ്ണാൻ കുഞ്ഞും തന്നാലായത്

aṇṇān kuññuṁ tannālāyatŭ

Even the little squirrel does what it can

Meaning: Everyone should contribute to a big cause according to their ability, however small (from the Ramayana bridge-building story).

ആന കൊടുത്താലും ആശ കൊടുക്കരുത്

āna koṭuttāluṁ āśa koṭukkarutŭ

Give away even an elephant, but never give false hope

Meaning: Don't make promises you can't keep — raising someone's hopes and failing them is worse than any loss.

പയ്യെ തിന്നാൽ പനയും തിന്നാം
