How percentiles work

A percentile compares your child to 100 typical children of the same age and gender. A weight-for-age percentile of 60 means your child weighs more than 60 of those 100 children, and less than the other 40. Percentiles don't map onto a health score — a consistently-tracked 15th percentile is often perfectly healthy for a child who has always grown along that curve, while a sudden jump or drop across percentile lines is usually more worth discussing with a pediatrician than the percentile number itself.

For children under 5, we use the World Health Organization's Child Growth Standards, which are built from a multi-country study of healthy, breastfed children and are the reference used by most pediatricians and India's own immunization/growth-monitoring programs. For 5–18 year-olds, there isn't a compact public data table we can embed responsibly here, so we use a simplified approximation of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) 2015 growth charts — treat that range as directional, not exact.
