UIP vs IAP — what's the difference?
The Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) is the Government of India's free vaccination schedule, delivered through Anganwadi centres, PHCs and government hospitals — it covers BCG, OPV, Pentavalent (DTwP + Hepatitis B + Hib), Rotavirus, PCV, Measles-Rubella (MR), Vitamin A, and JE in endemic districts. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) publishes an additional recommended schedule — usually given privately — that layers on vaccines like Hepatitis A, Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine, Varicella (chickenpox), IPV in place of OPV, annual Influenza, and HPV for pre-teens. Doses above are tagged UIP or IAP so you can see which is which and discuss with your pediatrician what fits your family.
