Hindi has three formality levels of "you" — तू (tū), तुम (tum), and आप (āp). Picking the right one matters socially.

First person singular.

Very informal — with God, close family, lovers.

तुम

Friends, siblings, juniors.

आप

āp

Strangers, elders, plural "you".

वह

vah

"That" person — third person singular (distant).

हम

ham

First person plural; also used informally to mean "I" in some dialects.

वे

Third person plural (formal).
