Maghi — ਮਾਘੀ

January 14 · first day of the month of Magh (Makar Sankranti)
Maghi falls the morning after Lohri. For Sikhs it commemorates the Chali Mukte — the Forty Liberated Ones who fell defending Guru Gobind Singh at the Battle of Khidrana in 1705. A great fair, Mela Maghi, is held at Sri Muktsar Sahib, where devotees take a holy dip in the sarovar.
